The Zürich based architecture office INSTANT (Dirk Hebel & Jörg Stollmann with Tobias Klauser) has designed a water bottle that can be recycled and filled with local soil and stacked to form temporary shelter. The concept, called UNITED_BOTTLE can be used by Governments and NGOs to distribute water locally and regionally and be able to upcycle the bottle as a building material in combination with found materials such as sand, earth and natural insulation materials such as animal hair. The simple water bottle would operate as a container for the awareness of the next crisis.

HBO Voyeur

La chaîne américaine HBO lance son « Voyeur Project ». Où l’internaute observe à la dérobée des petites histoires interconnectées.

Le 28 juin, HBO lançait à grands renforts de pub son Voyeur Project. Comme le nom est sacrément intriguant et que c’est la chaîne HBO, il fallait en avoir le cœur net. Le site se présente de manière simple, voire franchement austère. Une fenêtre, une paire de jumelles, des immeubles de New York en guise de décor. Quelques fenêtres au loin luisent de manière particulière. Un clic et nous voilà, après un zoom vertigineux, face à un immeuble de verre comme si le spectateur possédait le don de voir à travers les murs.

Chaque adresse, chaque histoire est rythmée par des séquences filmées. La progression chronologique est toujours différente, certains saynètes se déroulant sur quelques heures ou sur une quinzaine de jours. On dirait une pièce de théâtre muette. On ne comprend pas tout, mais suffisamment pour émettre des hypothèses. Bien assez en tout cas pour sombrer dans un état quasi hypnotique et pour être animé d’une curiosité maladive. L’ensemble, remarquablement réalisé, est un mixte entre Fenêtre sur cour d’Hitchcock et la Vie mode d’emploi de Pérec. Un enchevêtrement de petits événements quotidiens, tragiquement banals comme une affaire d’adultère, ou romanesques et à suspense comme l’homme épié par la police. Le tout, évidemment nourri à la morbide pulsion de voyeurisme qui trouve là un résumé d’une rare efficacité.

Trafalgar Squar Great Light Giveaway

Tom Dixon needs no introduction. The maverick designer-businessman inevitably appears in the same sentence as the words British and design but if confirmation were needed as to his status, a brief flick through the schedule for this year’s design festival would leave you in no doubt. Aside from the gargantuan task of creative directing 100% Design, Mr. Dixon is orchestrating one of the festival’s centrepiece highlights, an eco lighting display in Trafalgar Square.

Party Dress is a roving performance that is part living architecture: part monumental fashion

Media Mirror is an interactive installation commissioned by the Felissimo Design House, located on 10 W 56th St at 5th Ave in New York City. The goal of the installation is to promote and announce Felissimo’s upcoming initiative to the public. The two part installation consists of an interactive digital shadow which lives in the storefront window and a smart spotlight that follows pedestrians around on the sidewalk.

WIND TO LIGHT /// JASON BURGES

 

‘Wind to light’ is a project commissioned by Onedotzero and light lab for architecture week 2007 in the uk, executed by Jason Bruges Studio. ‘Wind to light’ is a custom built, site-specific installation consisting of 500 miniature wind turbines directly generating the power to illuminate hundreds of integrally mounted LEDs. The effect is to create ‘firefly-like fields of light’ where the wind can be visualized as an ephemeral electronic cloud in the atmosphere. The turbine and LED modulesare attached to their base by flexible poles which allow them to slightly sway in the wind, animating the movement of the wind by a digital, electronic means.

Improv Everywhere causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd , Improv Everywhere has executed over 70 missions involving thousands of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City.

HERBES FOLLES – Paris – 2001
Herbes folles est une installation éphémère pour la ville de Paris. De fines bandelettes d’un tissu très léger sont accrochées aux grilles d’aération du métro et s’agitent dans le souffle des ventilateurs.
Bien qu’indispensable pour la vie soutterraine dans le métro, la ventilation est vécue en surface comme une nuisance. Ce souffle chaud, vicié, inexploité peut cependant être le prétexte et la condition d’une vision inattendue.
En ondulant dans le bruit continu d’un froissement, cette installation offre l’image d’une nature d’un autre genre, une nature urbaine, spontanée et éphémère. Hypnotisés et rassurés comme près d’un feu, les passants rêvent et s’imaginent des algues, des rizières, des herbes.
Herbes folles détourne ces grilles d’aération en ralentissant le rythme du trottoir et des passants surpris au coin de la rue.
